Alor

“Heaven in the East of the Sun”

Alor is one of 23 regency in East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia with its area of 2,864.64 km2. The area includes 15 islands in which nine of them are inhabited ones and the six other islands are uninhabitated ones.

Alor is increasingly popular as a tourist destination in the province because of its unique cultural and natural charm. The beauty of underwater of Pantar Strait with its underwater biota has contributed significantly to the development of Alor. That is why Alor known as the Heaven in the east of the sun.

Here’s some place that you need to explore if you go to Alor:

Alor Marine Park

The park includes several locations in the islands of Pantar, Pura, Ternate, Alor Kecil, Buaya and Southwestern Alor. It is famous for the beauty of its coral reefs and hundreds world divers already explored the underwater and found approximately 42 best diving spot in the region.

 

Ikat Weaving Center

Ikat weaving house Gunung Moko belongs to Mrs. Sariat Libana whose house in Hula, Alor Besar Village. The weavers groups at the weaving house have been producing woven sheets with typical Alor’s cloth pattern that spread across the island. The woven made with natural material with about 201 natural dyes used.

 

Koya-Koya Mountain

As the highest mountain in Alor, the mountain stands 1.823 feet above sea level. Koya-koya Mountain also has lake which is a home for many kind of fish. You can get to this mountain by using travel service for 1.5 hours long trip.

 

Beaches

Mali beach,Batu Putih beach, Maimol beach, Buiko beach are few beaches that you need to put on your list when you come to Alor. Every beach has it owns uniqueness and mostly available for snorkeling. Definitely will spoil your inner ocean soul.
